Virtual Conference

Netiquette

We are very excited to learn from our presenters and foster intellectual community in a digital space for the 2024 IU Interdisciplinary Grad Conference. In order to best utilize our time together, we ask that you do the following:

1. Support the Presenters

When you enter the Zoom room, please have your microphone muted and (when possible) your video camera on. This allows for us to be active listeners for our presenters and minimizes the possibilities for disruption. At the end of every panel, we will have time for questions. To ask a question, use the “Raise Hand” emote from the “Reactions” menu, which will be located at the bottom of the Zoom window. The moderator will then call on you, and you can unmute and ask your question. You may also use the chat function to ask a question.

2. Respect Our Time

Each presenter has spent a lot of time to craft their argument and share their knowledge with us, so we ask that presenters please follow the guidelines for presentation length so that each has an equal opportunity to speak. If you go over your allotted time, you will be gently asked to conclude your presentation so that the next presenter can begin. Keep in mind that topics you did not have a chance to present upon can be discussed during the Q+A section or on Discord.

3. Welcome Each Other

As a collegial and interdisciplinary community, we ask that all participants in the conference practice using affirming language that does not alienate or exclude others. Differences of opinion and interpretation are natural and appropriate for scholarly discussion, but disagreements should never be predicated on disrespect towards a presenter. Remember, we are not just representing ourselves, but also our intellectual communities. Be mindful of this when sharing your thoughts.

4. Keep in Touch

A conference or a panel presentation is just the beginning of learning and developing ideas. If you found a presentation invigorating, let the presenter know! If there is any clarification or assistance the conference co-chairs can offer before, during, or after the conference, please feel free to reach out at iugradconference@gmail.com and join your fellow presenters on Discord
